Director of Finance

Overseeing the financial strategy, governance, and sustainability of FOWES.

The Director of Finance is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, governance, and sustainability of FOWES — ensuring strong financial stewardship, transparency, compliance, and alignment with our mission of advancing women's economic development. This is a voluntary position. Certain project-based or specialized financial services may be compensated depending on organizational requirements and budget.

Financial Leadership & Oversight

  1. Lead financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and forecasting aligned with organizational goals
  2. Oversee financial operations, reporting, and performance tracking
  3. Advise the Executive Director and Board on financial position, risks, and opportunities

Governance, Compliance & Risk

  1. Ensure compliance with all non-profit regulatory and reporting requirements (Canada/Quebec)
  2. Establish and maintain financial policies, controls, and audit processes
  3. Identify risks and implement appropriate financial safeguards

Funding & Operations

  1. Support funding strategies, grant applications, and financial structuring of programs
  2. Oversee fund allocation to ensure accountability and impact
  3. Optimize financial systems and processes to improve efficiency and scalability

Reports directly to the Executive Director and indirectly to the Chair and Vice-Chair. Oversees:

  1. Finance Manager / Bookkeeper
  2. Grants & Funding Coordinator
  3. External Accountants / Financial Consultants
  4. Volunteers or interns supporting finance functions
  • CPA or equivalent professional qualification preferred
  • Strong experience in financial management, ideally within non-profit or mission-driven organizations
  • Solid understanding of financial governance, compliance, and reporting
  • Proven ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy at both strategic and operational levels

Board Secretary

Ensuring strong governance, compliance, and effective board administration.

The Board Secretary is responsible for ensuring strong governance, compliance, and effective board administration. This role supports the integrity of the organization by maintaining accurate records, facilitating board processes, and ensuring adherence to statutory and governance requirements.

Governance & Documentation

  1. Prepare agendas, record minutes, and maintain official records of meetings
  2. Ensure proper documentation of Board decisions, resolutions, and policies
  3. Maintain organized and secure records, including bylaws and governance documents

Coordination & Communication

  1. Coordinate Board and leadership meetings, schedules, and follow-ups
  2. Support internal communication between Board members, Executive Director, and committees
  3. Track action items and ensure timely follow-through

Compliance & Administration

  1. Ensure adherence to governance procedures and organizational protocols
  2. Support filings, documentation, and regulatory requirements as applicable
  3. Assist in maintaining transparency and accountability across operations

Reports to the Executive Director. Works closely with the Chair, Board Members, and Leadership Team.

  • Experienced in program development and management within the nonprofit sector
  • Strategic with a proven track record of executing successfully
  • Passionate about women's empowerment and social impact
  • Skilled in project management, able to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously

Director of Strategic Growth

Designing and driving the growth architecture of the FOWES ecosystem — marketing, partnerships, and fundraising.

This is a leadership mandate, not a support function. The Director of Growth is responsible for designing and driving the growth architecture of the FOWES ecosystem. Working closely with the Executive Director and Board, this role ensures that FOWES' programs and impact are positioned, communicated, and scaled with precision.

Growth Strategy & Positioning

  1. Define and execute growth strategy aligned with FOWES' economic development mission
  2. Strengthen positioning as an ecosystem, not a community
  3. Drive member acquisition, partnerships, and funding channels

Marketing & Communications

  1. Oversee campaigns, content, and communications
  2. Ensure consistent brand voice and messaging
  3. Convert visibility into engagement and participation

Partnerships & Fundraising

  1. Build and manage strategic partnerships and sponsorships
  2. Develop funding pipelines and ecosystem collaborations
  3. Position FOWES as a high-impact partner

Performance & Optimization

  1. Track KPIs across growth, partnerships, and fundraising
  2. Optimize campaigns and outreach for measurable results

Reports to the Executive Director. Leads the Growth, Marketing, Partnerships, and Fundraising committees.

Event Coordinator

Supporting the seamless delivery of elevated, high-impact event experiences for the FOWES community.

The Event Coordinator supports the Event Planner in the seamless delivery of elevated, high-impact experiences. This role is ideal for someone who brings operational precision and creative sensibility. This is a voluntary position with a honorary stipend.

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of signature experiences — workshops, networking events, retreats, professional development sessions, fundraisers, and donor engagement activities
  • Orchestrate event logistics end-to-end, including venues, vendor relations, speaker coordination, and on-site production
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with partners, sponsors, donors, and community stakeholders
  • Develop and manage detailed timelines, run-of-show documents, and on-site flow
  • Collaborate on event promotion and audience engagement across digital platforms
  • Lead volunteer coordination and contribute to a warm, elevated attendee journey
  • Monitor budgets, track expenses, and support financial accountability in line with non-profit standards
  • Contribute to post-event reporting and continuous improvement of programming
