Director of Finance
Role Overview
The Director of Finance is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, governance, and sustainability of FOWES. This role ensures strong financial stewardship, transparency, compliance, and alignment with the organization’s mission of advancing women’s economic development.
This is a voluntary position. Certain project-based or specialized financial services may be compensated depending on organizational requirements and budget.
The Role
Financial Leadership & Oversight
- Lead financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and forecasting aligned with organizational goals
- Oversee financial operations, reporting, and performance tracking
- Advise the Executive Director and Board on financial position, risks, and opportunities
Governance, Compliance & Risk
- Ensure compliance with all non-profit regulatory and reporting requirements (Canada/Quebec)
- Establish and maintain financial policies, controls, and audit processes
- Identify risks and implement appropriate financial safeguards
Funding & Operations
- Support funding strategies, grant applications, and financial structuring of programs
- Oversee fund allocation to ensure accountability and impact
- Optimize financial systems and processes to improve efficiency and scalability.
Team Structure
Reports directly to the Executive Director and indirectly to the Chair and Vice-Chair.
Oversees (as applicable):
- Finance Manager / Bookkeeper
- Grants & Funding Coordinator
- External Accountants / Financial Consultants
- Volunteers or interns supporting finance functions.
The Fit
- CPA or equivalent professional qualification preferred
- Strong experience in financial management, ideally within non-profit or mission-driven organizations
- Solid understanding of financial governance, compliance, and reporting
- Proven ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy at both strategic and operational levels.

Board Secretary
The Board Secretary is responsible for ensuring strong governance, compliance, and effective board administration. This role supports the integrity of the organization by maintaining accurate records, facilitating board processes, and ensuring adherence to statutory and governance requirements.
The Secretary works closely with the Chair and Executive Director to ensure that Board operations run efficiently, decisions are properly documented, and organizational obligations are met with professionalism and accountability.
The Role
Governance & Documentation
- Prepare agendas, record minutes, and maintain official records of meetings
- Ensure proper documentation of Board decisions, resolutions, and policies
- Maintain organized and secure records, including bylaws and governance documents
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate Board and leadership meetings, schedules, and follow-ups
- Support internal communication between Board members, Executive Director, and committees
- Track action items and ensure timely follow-through
Compliance & Administration

- Ensure adherence to governance procedures and organizational protocols
- Support filings, documentation, and regulatory requirements as applicable
- Assist in maintaining transparency and accountability across operations

Director of Growth
The Director of Growth is responsible for designing and driving the growth architecture of the FOWES ecosystem, spanning marketing, strategic partnerships, and fundraising.
This is a leadership mandate, not a support function.
Working closely with the Executive Director and Board, the Director of Growth ensures that FOWES’ programs, initiatives, and impact are positioned, communicated, and scaled with precision, attracting aligned members, high-value partners, and sustainable funding opportunities.
The role requires the ability to operate at both strategic and execution levels, translating vision into structured growth systems that deliver measurable outcomes.

- Define and execute growth strategy aligned with FOWES’ economic development mission
- Strengthen positioning as an ecosystem, not a community
- Drive member acquisition, partnerships, and funding channels
Marketing & Communications
- Oversee campaigns, content, and communications
- Ensure consistent brand voice and messaging
- Convert visibility into engagement and participation
Partnerships & Fundraising
- Build and manage strategic partnerships and sponsorships
- Develop funding pipelines and ecosystem collaborations
- Position FOWES as a high-impact partner
Performance & Growth Optimization
